Chris Gavin was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied sculpture in Edinburgh College of Art, receiving his Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in 1986, followed by a Masters in Fine Arts degree in 1988 from the Graduate Sculpture program at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
Chris opened his own studio and has since pursued a career in the metal arts with particular interest and emphasis on forged work, both with sculptural and functional. Primarily a self-taught blacksmith, he developed his craft and style by continually designing works and elements that would challenge his skills as an artist and craftsman.
He formed his present company, Mandala Creations in Metal, in 1994 after taking a year long sabbatical: a trip around the world.
Mandala Creations focuses primarily on custom architectural commissions and sculpture that is client-specific, for both residential and commercial settings.
